The Buck Hollow Trail and the Buck Ridge main hike offers much more solitude than the section from Skyline Drive up to Mary’s Rock. There are very few people using this trail to head to Mary’s Rock. The Buck Hollow and Buck Ridge trail is about 9 miles loop offering great scenery. The hike starts at a small parking area on US 211 that heads up to the Buck Hollow Trail crossing Buck Hollow stream where it intersect on the Buck Ridge Trail (blue).
The Buck Hollow Trail climbs the valley crossing the stream several times before it gets steeper. It ends at Skyline Drive and the Hazel Mountain parking area. You can continue towards Mary’s Rock by crossing Skyline Drive and walking left uphill and turning right onto the Meadow Spring Trail (several ruins in .5 miles). You should see the white blazed Appalachian Trail and ridge line. Turn right on the AT following it for 0.8 miles to go to theMary’s Rock vista.
