Cockeysvile is named after the Cockey family from the late 1700s who built one of the first homes and the first commercial structure in the area. The town is another site of Civil War activity–Confederate soldiers destroyed telegraph lines and burned the first bridge over Gunpowder Falls.
There are several parks in the area including Loch Raven Reservoir, Oregon Ridge, and Gunpowder Falls State Park.
