This Ellicott City Colored school was constructed in the 1880 and used as the first public school for black children in Howard County. The school was operation until 1950’s when Howard County repurchased and restored the building with public and private funding. Located at at 8683 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, it now serves as genealogical resource center, museums highlighting the contributions of African Americans and as a historical site in Howard County.
