Manassas National Battlefield Park was the site of two important Civil War battles: The First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861, and The Second Battle of Bull Run between August 28-30, 1862. The Battlefield Park visitor center gives a lot of detailed information about these battles including videos, maps, and exhibits. From the visitor center you can take a walking tour to visit the major historical sites, or you can visit most of the sites via car tour. If you choose to walk, there are trail signs that will take you in a 5.3 mile loop back to the visitor center. On the trail you will see the Stone Bridge over Bull Run stream. The Stone Bridge was originally built in 1825, and during both battles the Union troops fled across the bridge from the Confederate troops. I recommend walking the full trail in order to see all of the many monuments, sites, and information signs noting where troops were stationed during the battles.
